Save or Splurge?

Hey,

Some of you might be aware but I've recently put myself on a spending ban. The good thing about doing this is that it gives you time to look through your collection and find hidden gems that you'd forgotten about or things you have bought and have never used.

Whilst looking through my collection, I realised that I've got a nice balance between high end and drugstore products and today I thought I'd talk about where I save and buy from the high street and where I splurge and go for a high end product.

To make this easier I'm going to organise into catergories starting with base.

Foundation/concealer: For a while I would have definitely leaned towards high end for foundation purely because the shade range for pale faced ladies was better. However, the high street has definitely been upping its game recently and certain brands have finally realised that something they consider Ivory to a pale faced individual is orange. So I have to say I'm now 50/50 on foundations. I think it comes down to coverage and finish.
Concealer wise, I can pick and chose between high end and high street. As long as Collection keep Lasting Perfection in stock, then I'm fine with the high street. HOWEVER, my one true love is MAC Pro Longwear Concealer and that is definitely worth the splurge.

Blush: Again, I'm 50/50 here. I've got a MUJI drawer full of high street blushers and a drawer full of high end ones. Depending on my mood, I'll choose accordingly.

Eyeshadow: I'd like to say I'm 50/50 here too but I feel I have to many high end palettes to not be able to say that I am more high street than high end. I mean I've effectively got five MAC pallettes, a handful of NARS palettes and a whole drawer of Urban Decay Naked Palettes and I'm proud of myself for it.

Mascara: I have to say with mascaras I'm pretty happy with the high street. I've only really stepped into the High End ring twice with Benefit They're Real and Lancome Hypnose Star and as much as I enjoyed them, I just think I could buy a high street one for a lot less and get a lipstick as well for the price of the one high end mascara.

Lipstick: I'm a lipstick splurger all the way. I don't think I can claim I'm a saver when it comes to lipstick with 52 MAC, a good handful of Charlotte Tilbury and a full total of 6 wide muji drawers full of lipsticks can I?

What products will you save with and what do you splurge on?

Lots of Love,
Clare

  1. Great post! I tend to go for high end when it comes to foundations but things such as eyeshadows and mascaras I always end up in the drugstore.
