BEAUTY: Bioderma Versus L'oreal

Hey Lovelies,

So today I thought I'd talk about two products, which if you haven't already worked out from the title are Bioderma (the beauty elite's favourite) and the "drugstore equivalent" L'oreal Skin Perfection 3 in 1 Purifying Micellar Solution.

A picture of Bioderma compared with L'oreal Skin Perfection 3 in 1 Purifying Micellar Solution.

I have been fortunate to try both products, I received the L'Oreal bottle in a swap when it first came out and I purchased the Bioderma myself from a shop in London back in April. I have shared my opinions on twitter before now but I thought I thought I better share my thoughts on the blog.

Micellar Solutions are big money in the beauty and beauty blogging industries with most bloggers and YouTube I know at least trying one version/brand of it. I personally use them to clear my make up of my skin in the evening before I go in for a proper cleanse with a cleansing balm and a muslin cloth.

Now onto the two that I'm comparing. The application of both products is the same. I put a 10p size amount on a cotton pad and then wipe it over the face, avoiding the eyes. Why avoid the eyes when it says on both its fine to go over the eyes.. well if I'm being lazy I will use Bioderma on the eyes HOWEVER, I will never use the L'Oreal near my eyes.. I did once and it BURNED my eyes. I never want to suffer that pain again.

When wiping the cotton wool pads complete with product, the make up does come off, however to different extents. With the L'Oreal water the make up will begin to disappear but will not be fully cleansed off. This is why I would never use this alone I always double cleanse. The Bioderma seems to remove all make up it meets, I still use a balm to fully cleanse but there isn't any remnants of make up visible on the cloth.

Two other things I have found that are different about the two are the drying time on the face and the feeling once its dry. Bioderma dries quicker than the L'oreal seems to do and when it is dry the L'Oreal water seems to leave the skin tacky and unpleasant. I know that I double cleanse so the sticky feeling won't stay for long but the fact that it leaves my skin that way make me feel unpleasant.

I guess that the price difference has been the thing that has drawn people in the L'Oreal Skin Perfection 3 in 1 Micellar Water is 200ml and costs around £3 depending on offers. The Bioderma comes in a range of sizes but the closest to the L'oreal one is 250ml and that costs £9.99 (on escentual.com).

Overall, yes the L'Oreal one is cheaper and it does do its job... I don't think it does it's job as well as the original it is trying to copy. I know it costs more but I think I shall be sticking to Bioderma. Have you tried either of the products what did you think?

Till Next Time,
Clare

  1. I use the Loreal water regularly and really like it. However, I don't use it on it's own as I like to use a cream and oil cleanser for a deep clean! I would recommend the Loreal 15 second miracle oil (something like that). It really is amazing stuff. You rub it all over your face and it takes off all make up including mascara.

I haven't tried Bioderma yet. I am reluctant to shell out a tenner on a bottle of water! :) xx

    1. There are travel versions so you don't have to spend £10. I cleanse afterwards too but I just didn't like the L'oreal one as much xx

  2. I actually prefer the loreal one but I do always cleanse afterwards. I'm lucky that I've found it to be gentle and remove my makeup well, though I've not been wearing as much makeup recently due to the weather!great post hun xx

  7. I just purchased the Bioderma for the first time and I'm fairly pleased with it. I used the La Roche Posay one for about 2 years and it absolutely doesn't sting my eyes, so you might want to check that one out? Thanks for the review! xx
